India ODI Squad announced and Dravid return to one day squad after 2 years

dravid-come-backChairman Krishnamachari Srikkanth’s said that this is the best team we could have sent.

Seletors said that Our batting looked suspect during the T20 World Cup and the West Indies series. So we thought Dravid was the right man to add some spunk to the lineup, especially on the fast and bouncy tracks of South Africa.

With Zaheer (Khan) and (Virender) Sehwag not there, we’re short of two genuine matchwinners. Basically, we were looking at more impact players the selector added.

Abhishek Nayar is the only all-rounder in the squad while wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik will be considered as the third opener in case of a crisis. He did the job successfully in the West Indies and is a multi-utility cricketer.

India ODI Squad announced:

Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, RP Singh, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Dinesh Karthik, Abhishek Nayar, Ashish Nehra, Praveen Kumar

Dravid would once again take guard for India in ODIs. It was middle-order solidity the selectors were looking for and Dravid fitted the bill perfectly.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly: India will bounce back

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s boys were capable of shrugging off their World Twenty20 disappointment and would bounce back in the one-day International series against the West Indies, which kicks off on Friday.

westindies-vs-india-2009“Sachin (Tendulkar), (Virender) Sehwag and Zaheer (Khan) will surely be missed… But I’m confident that the rest are quite capable of putting up a good performance against the West Indies as they are experienced in the ODIs. He though, had a word of caution for the Indian team. West Indies are a good team. They have some quality players in Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Dwayne Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul who can change the outcome of a game. It’s going to be a tough series.

Sourav downplayed India’s not-too-impressive performance in the World Twenty20 saying that Team India had consistently done well in the shortest format of the game. They have been doing well for the last one and a half years and failure in just one tournament shouldn’t be blown up like this.

Sourav, who recently began his innings as a commentator, put his weight behind skipper Dhoni. He has been handling the job quite well. You can’t judge him by one tournament.

The sixteen member team includes Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain and wicketkeeper), Yuvraj Singh (vice captain), Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Pragyan Ojha, Yusuf Pathan, Murali Vijay, S Badrinath, RP Singh, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Abhishek Nayar, Ashish Nehra, Ravindra Jadeja and Dinesh Karthik.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Owner Shah Rukh Khan (srk) fires John Buchanan

knight-ridersKolkata Knight Riders  sacked controversial Australian coach John Buchanan after their poor performance in the recent Indian Premier League.

The Kolkata team finished last in the eight-team IPL in South Africa last month, losing 10 of their 14 league matches. It took KKR’s owners a little more than three weeks after the end of the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to make the decision. The instructions to let go off Mr Buchanan came from Mr Khan through an email communique. The actor is in the US where he is shooting for his next film.

The KKR franchise was bought for $75 million by SRK, Jai Mehta and Juhi Chawla. It was one of the only two teams that turned in a profit in the first season of the IPL.  KKR has been the most-valued team of the IPL with a brand value of $42.1 million, according to UK-based consultancy Brand Finance.

Now Buchanan is set for a coaching role with England ahead of the Ashes series against Australia. Earlier Buchanan left the Australia job after the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies as elite cricket’s most successful coach, with a winning record of 70 percent after becoming national coach in 1999.
